Despite my disappointment that Pettersson will be nearly completely ignored in his home country this upcoming concert season, I am very pleased to say that the Germans have not forgotten about him. This is a really great program; in addition to the Pettersson there will also be Hartmann's Concerto Funèbre, a piece I've wanted to hear live for about a decade. On the same evening, two major 20th century voices, both voices of resistance and defiance, speaking out.
Hope to see you all there as well!
Just listened to the Hartmann piece. Some definite Vaughn-Williams moments, but much more interesting that RVW ever wrote in total.
ReplyDeleteSaw the Hartmann piece last year in Chicago with the CSO. One of my favorites that I thought I would never get the chance to see performed live.
ReplyDeleteUlf Hoelscher and Ulf Wallin are planning a new recording of Seven Sonatas (CPO). Hope they will perform some concerts too.
